Chamomile & Lavender Calm Tonic
Two of nature's gentlest sedatives in one cup — wind down without medication.
Chamomile has centuries of use as a natural sleep aid and anxiety reducer. Paired with lavender — proven to lower heart rate and cortisol — this tonic is the gentlest way to signal to your nervous system that the day is done. Make it 30 minutes before bed for best results.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp dried chamomile flowers
- 1 tsp dried lavender buds (culinary grade)
- 1 tsp raw honey
- 1 cup filtered water (just below boiling, ~200°F)
- Optional: a few drops of vanilla extract
Instructions
- 1
Heat water to just below boiling (200°F / 93°C) — don't use fully boiling water, it degrades delicate floral compounds.
- 2
Add chamomile flowers and lavender buds to a tea strainer or infuser.
- 3
Pour hot water over the herbs and steep for 5–7 minutes.
- 4
Remove the strainer, add raw honey and stir until dissolved.
- 5
Add vanilla extract if using. Sip slowly 30 minutes before bed.
Pro Tip
Use culinary-grade lavender (not decorative) — some varieties contain harsh oils. Steep for the full 7 minutes and cover the mug to trap volatile aromatics. Raw honey isn't just for sweetness — it has mild sedative properties and supports melatonin production.
